Many parents and family members always ask what is the best gift to purchase for a kindergartner. Well to be honest this is always an easy question for me being a teacher. My decision is always based on can they learn from it. Since we are talking about younger children 5 -6 years old then the chances are yes. However what are they learning is just as important. Are they memorizing information, analyzing concepts or practicing social or motor skills? Keeping these things in mind will make sure you get a gift that is worth it. Some gifts may offer one component while others incorporate many of them. Just keep in mind, whenever possible, choose gifts that spark the interest of the child, so for example if he or she likes baseball choose books about baseball or a learning game that is centered around a baseball theme. The overall goal is to a least make sure the item you choose will provide a fun learning experience and keep them entertained.
So here is my list of gifts for kindergartners that you cant go wrong with.
1. Technology - Many preschoolers and kindergartners have accessibility to an Ipad. Why not enhance their learning experience with one of these learning games.

Reading books improves your child's language skills, understanding of print concepts and so much more. Surprise your little one with a book today.
With 9 Stories in 1, the fun never ends! What Should Danny Do? is an innovative, interactive book that empowers kids with the understanding that their choices will shape their days, and ultimately their lives into what they will be. Written in a "Choose Your Own Story" style, the book follows Danny, a Superhero-in-Training, through his day as he encounters choices that kids face on a daily basis. As your children navigate through the different story lines, they will begin to realize that their choices for Danny shaped his day into what it became. And in turn, their choices for themselves will shape their days, and ultimately their lives, into what they will be.
- Touching the pages with the leap reader pen helps children learn to read by sounding out letters and words in interactive stories and activities,
-Each page includes three modes to help children learn to read on their own.
-Includes five early reading books that feature short vowels, sight words and simple words. (additional books sold separately).
There are so many items to choose from . These are just a few of my favorites. Old school manipulates such as puzzles and playdoh are also on my list. Overall choose wisely. You don't want to purchase an item that will be under the bed 5 minutes after it is open. If you need assistance when choosing you can always read reviews or watch them on TV. Happy Shopping! #kindergardensmarts
